Benchmark Estimating is a specialist firm of construction cost engineers, established in the UK since 2006 and part of the MacDonald Group which includes MIEngineers and Benchmark Estimating Software.

We provide independent estimating services for contracting and client organisations delivering capital projects and programmes, alongside Estimating training services and Benchmark’s own Estimating Software, Implementation, training and support.

Due to our continued growth, we are now seeking to recruit permanent Senior Estimators/Estimators and Graduate Estimators for our UK Head Office with panoramic views of central Manchester and a Project/Operations Manager to be based in Glasgow, Scotland.

PROJECT/OPERATIONS MANAGER – GLASGOW

You will be involved in high-profile projects, and coordinate and prioritise project tasks, manage schedules, identify and manage risks and maintain project plans to ensure exceptional customer satisfaction. It is envisaged that the role may expand to a management role as the business grows in the region.

You will be comfortable to communicate status to client stakeholders and senior management, work with external vendors as needed and attend meetings on-site as required.

Education and Experience

The candidate should:

  • Be tertiary-qualified in IT, project management or a related discipline
  • Have at least 6 years of experience managing large IT projects
  • Have PMP certification or equivalent project management qualification
  • Have experience with Project Management tools
  • Be experienced in IT projects involving various tasks including data migration, software development, integration, user-training and go-live support
  • Have a good knowledge of the software development lifecycle
  • Have experience in Water Utilities – an advantage but not essential

Key skills

  • Organisational skills means you are fluent with time management, able to coordinate complex tasks, direct resources dynamically and able to meet milestones and project objectives.
  • Communication skills need to be at the highest level; you must convey project status in lay terms, in addition to communicating goals and tasks with all project team members.
  • Managing risk is another key skill. You will be responsible for detecting and assessing potential risks, and implementing solutions should issues threaten to delay the timeline or customer outcomes.

VACANCY – SENIOR CONSULTANT

As a Senior Consultant you will act as a provider of commercial knowledge and will be expected to manage a substantial number of schemes/projects for our clients and be capable of managing jobs concurrently.

To manage all aspects of financial control provider and managed works contracts, including value engineering, estimating, negotiating prices, identifying and agreeing the value of additional works, interim valuations, final accounts and the production and management of contractual documentation. Measuring and evaluating works undertaken, compiling interim applications, pricing and agreeing compensation events/variations and agreeing final accounts with the client are vital components of this role.

You will also be one of the primary relationship builders, liaising with clients and potential clients, on behalf of the company.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Around 10 years’ experience of the civil engineering industry
  • Expert knowledge and strong commercial understanding of the cost components contained in civil engineering projects
  • Strong communication skills and be process orientated
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills
  • Knowledge of cost estimating processes
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of highways and construction operations ideally gained from experience with a main contractor
  • Experience of procurement and securing subcontractors through contract negotiations

Qualifications

  • Degree qualification or equivalent in a related subject essential
  • Chartered Professional Qualifications desirable

VACANCY – SENIOR ESTIMATOR

As a Senior Estimator, with a successful and proven track record within the engineering / construction sector and qualifications in relevant disciplines, you will be responsible for leading the team in the timely preparation of independent estimates for major infrastructure projects, as well as a range of data analysis and cost engineering services.  The role involves substantial engagement with clients and project teams working on some of the UK’s biggest projects and a chance to grow with a family owned and orientated SME.

Skills & Experience

  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering construction, with significant site experience
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Preparation of reports
  • Accurate and consistent approach
  • Proven experience in the preparation of cost estimates from first principles
  • Good communication skills and the ability to engage with clients at all levels

VACANCY – ESTIMATOR

As an Estimator you should have a successful proven track record within the engineering/construction sector and qualifications in relevant disciplines, you will be responsible for the timely preparation of independent estimates for major infrastructure projects, as well as a range of data analysis and cost engineering services. The role will involve engagement with clients and project teams working on some of the UK’s biggest projects and a chance to grow with a family owned and orientated SME.

Skills & Experience

VACANCY – GRADUATE ESTIMATOR

As a Graduate Estimator, you will be required to assist the team in the timely preparation of independent estimates for major infrastructure projects as well as a range of data analysis and cost engineering services.   You will also be required to participate in client meetings to advise and contribute in the continuous improvement of our clients’, and our own, estimating capability.

The role would suit someone who has hands-on experience of construction projects and wants to further their career, a qualified graduate in a relevant discipline and someone who strives for continuous improvement.
