Job Description
Benchmark Estimating is a specialist firm of construction cost engineers. We provide independent estimating services for contracting and client organisations delivering capital projects and programmes. We also provide leading cost estimating software and estimating training services.

We established our UK office in 2006 and are currently seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to join the UK team as an Office Manager and Business Co-ordinator.
Core duties of this role are accounts administration and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the office. However, these take up only part of the working week and the role covers several other areas including marketing, operations and project support.
You will report to the Head of our UK business and we think this is an excellent opportunity for a self-starting, flexible and ambitious person to develop in a varied role which has substantial potential to grow with the company.
You will need a good standard of numeracy, excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all levels. Educated to degree level, you will have also need strong ability in MS Office.
The key duties of this role include:
- Office administration for a team of circa 10 staff
- Accounts administration
- maintaining sales / purchase ledgers and controlling petty cash
- invoicing and tracking payments
- processing payroll and VAT returns
- cash-flow projections, reports and supporting the preparation of management accounts
- Marketing
- Assisting production of marketing plans, campaigns and materials
- Assisting the preparation of bids and tenders
- Upkeep of website maintenance using a content management system
- Maintaining the CRM system
- Supporting our operations including through reviewing, developing and implementing office procedures to continually improve our business
- HR administration and assisting the development and delivery of training plans
- Project support
Key Skills and Attributes
- Proactive, able to use own initiative and willing to accept responsibility
- Degree-educated with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Sound accounts experience including processing payroll and submitting VAT returns is highly desirable
- Experience of Sage Accounting and Payroll Software is desirable
- Previous marketing experience and / or relevant marketing qualifications
- Strong skills in MS Office and MS Word in particular
- Well-presented, able to deal with clients and build relationships
- Flexible and positive

Part of the Australian MacDonald International group, Benchmark Estimating Ltd has been established in the UK since 2006. Due to our continued growth, we are now seeking to recruit a full time Estimator for our UK office in central Manchester.
As an Estimator, you will be responsible for the timely preparation of independent estimates for major infrastructure projects as well as a range of data analysis and cost engineering services. You will engage with our clients to advise estimated outturn costs and the “should cost” of proposed projects. You will also play a full part in the continuous improvement of our clients’, and our own, estimating services.
You will have a strong understanding of construction methods and good numerical skills. Commercially aware, you will be able to demonstrate success in a similar environment.
Skills & Experience
- Sound knowledge of civil engineering construction
- Strong numerical and data analysis skills

- Preparation of cost estimates from first principles
- Project management
- Preparation of reports
- Civil engineering contracting or engineering design with significant site experience
- Planning and scheduling of construction works
