Benchmark Full vs Lite: an Overview

Before we start, it might be a good idea to explain that for many construction estimators out there the lite version of Benchmark’s estimating software holds all the necessary tools for the creation of clear, accurate estimates. However, to take full advantage and unlock the full potential of this software then the full version is needed.

Ease of use is of course one of the key criteria when thinking about construction estimating software. After all, if the software is clumsy or hard to understand and follow, the less chance there is of anyone actually using it. Fortunately, this is not the case with either version of the software as both have been designed to be as intuitive to use as possible.

Both versions are Windows based therefore making them accessible to most estimators and have the invaluable auto save feature eliminating the chance of estimates being lost. They both use a central database in order to create and store all information pertaining to your estimates. A project browser with quick find feature is also included to ensure that any previous jobs can be found easily. The quick find feature enables titles, quote numbers, etc to be found.

Benchmark Estimating Software Full and Lite use central libraries to house their data, which are responsible for storing everything from material and labour costs to special conditions and takeoff sheets. They also have the same standard features that are needed to compile a construction estimate. Standard features include a create and edit facility to add sections and items, copy and paste from one estimate to the other, project template set-ups and much, much more.

From the list of standard features, the Lite version is only missing one aspect. This is variables for project densities, height, width, etc. These variables can be added to an item and resource calculation anytime during an estimate via the Full software. Power estimating features however are only available with the Full version but repetitive works, routine pricing can be dealt with by Lite software.

Indirect costs and construction estimating reports are covered by both software models but only the Full version gives the user the ability to manipulate an estimate via Microsoft Word® and create PDF documents from estimates (not Word or Excel reports). Multiple business system support is also available on both models as is multiple user support.

Security measures are paramount and therefore standard with Lite and Full giving full password control, functionality control, and the ability to set up and alter company settings. Both models come with excellent support packages consisting of one year’s maintenance and one years 24/7 technical support.
